Consumers Energy filed its electric rate case on June 2, 2026, asking Michigan regulators for $481 million a year: $456 million in base rates plus a $25 million surcharge for past distribution spending. The company says the money pays mainly for distribution reliability work, and it wants a 10.25% return on equity versus the 9.9% now authorized. Using a home with a $155 monthly bill, the company puts the increase at about $13, or 9%. The commission's order is due by April 2, 2027, and the Attorney General has said she will intervene.
