PPL Electric Utilities asked the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission on September 30, 2025 for its first distribution base-rate increase since 2016, about $356.3 million a year, or roughly 8.6% of total company revenue. Its customer notice said a residential customer using 1,000 kWh would see the total monthly bill rise from $191.49 to $204.86, or 6.98%; the company pointed to the upkeep of nearly 47,000 miles of distribution lines, 1 million poles and hundreds of substations. On June 4, 2026 the commission approved a modified settlement worth about $275 million a year with a two-year stay-out on new base-rate increases. PPL says the decision raises residential bills 3.23%, or $6.48 a month at 1,000 kWh, and the new rates took effect July 1, 2026.
